What exactly is treatment and what does it look like?

State funded treatment in Arizona is for out-patient treatment only. The Arizona Division of Problem Gambling has a list of contracted treatment providers who hold professional licenses through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health.  These contracted providers have completed additional training and competencies regarding problem gambling. Each treatment provider has a different treatment philosophy and approach, making treatment different for each provider.

Who is eligible for treatment?

Both the gambler and people impacted by a problem gambler (family, friends, co-workers, loved ones), residing in Arizona, could be eligible for treatment. The provider will conduct a simple screening to determine if you are eligible. Please see the Treatment Provider List to select a counselor.

There are no treatment provider’s where I live, how do I get treatment?

Many of the providers offer phone or remote counseling via tele-practice. Refer to the Treatment Provider List to locate treatment providers offering these services.

Who pays for treatment?

Treatment is subsidized through tribal casino contributions and the Arizona Lottery, managed through the Arizona Division of Problem Gambling.

My counselor has asked me to pay a co-payment. Is this normal?

It is at the discretion of each provider to determine if a client could or should make a copayment. Copayments can be used to help strengthen the commitment to treatment for some individuals. Treatment would not be refused for failure to make a copayment. All copayments help offset the cost of treatment, leaving more funding for others in need of help.
